Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said in Kerala’s Wayanad on Sunday that only the people from Wayanad understood that her brother, Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi, was fighting for truth.
Addressing an election rally in Wayanad’s Mananthavady, she said, “When a major campaign was unleashed against my brother, it was you who understood that he was fighting for the truth and right.”
Rahul Gandhi also accompanied Priyanka to campaign for the Lok Sabha bypolls on Sunday. Priyanka Gandhi took a political plunge after she decided to contest the upcoming Wayanad Lok Sabha bypolls.
Priyanka Gandhi further said that Rahul Gandhi “fought hard” to improve the facilities at the Wayanad Medical College, but the facilities still need to be better. She also told them that she would address the issue of job shortage in the region.
She also said that new roads would be constructed in Wayanad and measures would be taken to address the human-animal conflict in the region.
“Rahul Gandhi has shown the way. He has raised your issues in Parliament. But the issue is that governments are not working as a government for the people,” she said.
Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government, she said, “PM Modi’s government works only for his extremely rich businessmen. His objective is not to provide better health services, better standard of living or better job opportunities. His only aim is to continue to stay in power. And what are those means? Those means are dividing you, spreading anger, spreading hatred amongst you.”
“He is taking land and ports away from you and giving it to businessmen,” she added.
Rahul Gandhi also addressed the rally and told the people that Priyanka Gandhi would be the “best possible MP” they would get.
Priyanka Gandhi’s move to contest elections followed Rahul vacating the seat after he won two constituencies, Wayanad and Rae Bareli, in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and vacated Wayanad seat.
Priyanka Gandhi will contest the election against BJP’s Navya Haridas and senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Sathyan Mokeri, who has been fielded as the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate.
The voting for the Wayanad bypolls will take place on November 13, while the counting of votes will be carried out on November 23.
